Corey Sandhagen Hits Out At Critics Doubting His Wrestle Against Umar Nurmagomedov

Corey Sandhagen is ready to prove the doubters wrong against Umar Nurmagomedov.

Sandhagen (16-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) will meet Nurmagomedov (16-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night on August 5 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Nurmagomedov, the cousin of former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, has displayed his distinctive wrestling prowess during his tenure in the octagon. Sandhagen is known for his striking, but he skillfully mixed things up with his wrestling in his previous win over Marlon Vera in March, where he was able to score three takedowns.

Sandhagen plans to show that he can stop Nurmagomedov’s grappling attack.

“When I read the comments, I scroll through and really only read the nice comments, and as soon as I see a mean comment I say, ‘Ah, I don’t want that stupid stuff in my head,’ So then I stop reading them,” Sandhagen said in an interview with Fanatics View. ‘ But at the same time, I don’t think anybody can really name any time outside of the (Alzmann) Sterling fight where I was on my back for longer than 10 seconds, 15 seconds.

Aparajit Nurmagomedov is not just a wrestler. The 27-year-old defeated Raoni Barcelos in their last meeting in January, but most of his professional wins have come by submission.

Sandhagen praised Nurmagomedov’s wrestling style and explained why it is more effective than American wrestling.

“I also think that what the Dagestani fighters do better than anyone else is not take people down, it’s their ability to hold people down that sets them apart from American wrestlers or wrestlers who have been in the UFC before. made it different,” Sandhagen said. “I think the Dagestanis have figured out how to block people better, which makes them look a lot better wrestlers, which makes them a lot better wrestlers in MMA.

“So I guess you just have to know what goes into a fight, and I certainly know that I am a very knowledgeable martial artist at this point. I think I’m a pretty good fighter, and I think I’m a pretty good thinker, and I think I’m definitely coming up with some pretty cool ways to combat all that stuff. I think Omar is going to be able to throw it at me.”
